Throughout these past weeks, one things that I've learned that'll help me when I'm back at school, is how it's important to get things done to check them off the list. I definitely procrastinate things a lot, but I realize that that's something that I really need to learn to overcome since not procrastinating will be a help for anything, not just school.

One challenge that I've faced during internship is learning about independence. Even though my internship is basically following my mentor around to experience his daily work, there are often many times where I have down time or I am asked to write an email to someone.. things like that. It's always easy to have someone tell you exactly what you should do, but it's hard to adapt to learning to navigate on your own.
A challenge that my mentor was facing, and actually still currently is, is that he was put in charge of hanging up a shovel in the U.S. Federal Courthouse. The problem was that he had to hang it facing down, which means something would have to hold the handle to keep from falling. We visited multiple hardware stores and did some research to find something. Ultimately someone helped to find a towel ring holder, and we are hoping that that has solved the problem. I looked into Daniel Marquez's, Carmen Thumm's, and Kimi Lowe's blogs.
Carmen seems to be having a great experience, especially for possibly wanting to be a dance teacher in the future. What's similar is that she and I have both learned something about what it means to be in our possible career choices. Something that's different is that she has a lot of different jobs she's supposed to get done, while I usually have the same tasks. Daniel seems like he's learning a lot, and it stood out how well he is comfortable with it all. Not much is similar with our jobs, but we're both enjoying internship so that's something we have in common. There's definitely a lot different, one being that he's not allowed to photograph anything, while my internship itself is photography. Kimi's project stood out to me, it sounds like a really fun project to be designing a display. What's similar is that we both often have a dog in the office! Something that's different is that her customers and clients go to them, while David often instead goes to the clients or locations themselves. Internship is starting to change the way I think about my future path because I'm starting to understand more about what my life will be like if this was my future. Plus there's a lot of options when it comes to the business. I get a good grasp of what goes on behind the scenes which leads to so thinking more about what type of photography I would go into, if I'd get a studio, things like that.

aboutI reached out to David Harrison Photography for Internship, and luckily he agreed to take me in as an intern. I've been interested in photography/film for many years now, and am excited to experience what a photographer's work is like on a day-to-day basis. ArchivesCategories |
